Winter Sports

Boys basketball

The boys varsity basketball team is coached by Jaime Pearson, assisted by Don Worstell and Scott Murphy. The JV head coach is Curtis Manley and 9th grade team head coach is Tyrel Grant.

Hopes that Coach Pearson holds for this season that the team will come together as a team and value the success of the team, not just the success of themselves. He also hopes that all 3 teams have winning records.

Pearson expects his athletes to value the program and the school by treating others how they would like to be treated. He holds his athletes to the expectation that they should be role models within the school and community. Pearson hopes his athletes will learn from their mistakes when they are made.

Athletes Coach Pearson says to keep an eye out for are four seniors Trey Cady, Alex Stokes, Marquis Long and Braylyn Dyer. He expressed he has enjoyed watching them grow into young men and put a lot of work into the sport of basketball. Two other players to pay close attention to are juniors Parker Iden and Logan Thrapp as they bring leadership to the team this season.

The first game will be December 2nd at Mansfield Madison.

Coach Pearson expressed that “I am extremely proud of the work they[the athletes] have put in.”

Bowling

The coaches of the bowling team are head coach Corey Chatman and assisted by Colton Wagner. As of right now Coach Chatman hopes for this upcoming season numbers of athletes in the program go up and that his current bowlers continue to get better.

Expectations haven’t changed from last year, Coach Chatman voiced he would like both girls and boys bowling teams to compete for the MOAC title. He wants the athletes to improve every day and become better bowlers, but also “... better students and members of the community.”

On the boys team Gavin Stoll, Kadin Saban, Allan Eaches, Naoh Daigneau and Clayton Speidel are stepping up this year for the challenge and to show their skills. Gavin is the only returning varsity member to the bowling team.

This past year, the girls bowling team lost Kenzi Vaught, MOAC girls bowler of the year for the 2022-23 season. With that being said Coach Chatman is expecting the seniors Hannah Mullennix, Abbey Knight, and Trinity Flickin to step up and lead the way. Returning athletes this year to the girls team are Peyton Apthorp, Jhmia Windham, and Niyemah Dixon-Melton.

Coach Chatman voiced he would like numbers for both teams to go up and eventually have both a JV and Varsity team for both boys and girls.

The bowling team will kick off its season November 18th at Wayne Webb's Columbus Bowl at the Teay Valley Thanksgiving Shootout.

Girls Basketball

Coaching staff for varsity is Corey White and Christopher Schertzer. For JV Clay Cheney and Kari Maniaci.

Coach White along with the other coaches are hoping for their athletes to excel in the classroom and be role models for the student body.

Athletes to look out for are juniors Kamerice Jackson and Aniya Mitchell who are both competing for MOAC player of the year. Both have started varsity since freshman year.

The team consists of 16 girls.

The coaching staff is looking forward to a fun, enjoyable as well as a successful season.
