MHHS Sponge Bob the musical

This year's Musical is SpongeBob the Musical. It will be performed November 12th-14th. Harding will be one of the first high schools to perform the show.

SpongeBob will be played by Brady Wink, Patrick Star will be played by Carter Rawlins, Plankton will be played by Asa Deeren, Eugene Krabs will be played by Mateusz Lisiecki and Squidward Q.Tentacles will be played by Zane Menzie.

Some of the challenges with the musical and COVID are singing with masks. Trying to project their voices through the masks when singing and distancing with as many students as there is challenging.

Tickets will be $15 when they go on sale but are still to be determined.

The musical last year was a drama, and Mrs.Rawlins wanted it to be the complete opposite of what it was last year, which was Anastasia and this year Mrs.Rawlins wanted something interactive and fun.

She wanted something to cheer people up because of everything that is happening now in the world.

When Mrs. Rawlins first saw the show in New York, she knew that when it came out she had to do it. One of the ways the musicals are chosen is talent. “I have been very very blessed at Harding High School. We have a very extensive amount of talent whether it is vocalists, dancers, or a combination of both.”

SpongeBob the Musical first came out in 2016 at the Oriental Theatre in Chicago. The musical was on Broadway for nine months. It received positive reviews and 12 Tony Award nominations.

When it comes to preparing for the musical rehearsals everyone who is in it is preparing their schedules, because almost everyone who is in the musical does extracurriculars or works after school.

Mrs.Rawlins started vocal directing musicals at Elgin with her mom so she has been doing it for about 20 years. She has been working for 12 years at Harding and has been the main director for the 11 years she has been here.
