People in town might have noticed a new spiritual shop around the corner at 671 East Center Street. Well that shop is none other than Bohemian Besoms.
The history behind Bohemian Besoms seems to be very interesting. Six friends are all the owners of the business: Moon, Scoot, Doug, Matt, Amanda, and Steph.
When asked how it was to run Bohemian Besoms, Moon laughed and said: ”A learning experience. There have been so many things that I thought were going to be fairly straightforward. And there were some things that I thought would be super hard that turned out to be the most simplest.”
The name behind Bohemian Besoms also has a story to tell. “We wanted to have something that a lot of practitioners would recognize, and one of those things is a Besom, which is actually another name for broom,” said Moon. “I tend to be the little hippy one in the shop and came up with Bohemian mostly because we've come from many different paths.”
Bohemian Besoms has been open since June 25, 2022. When asked why the store was opened, Moon said: “It’s probably been a dream of mine for well over ten years to have a shop, not just because I love my practice. I wanted to be able to serve our community and I feel like Marion has been extremely underserviced for what I believe is a very growing passion.”
And people do seem to have a growing passion for the things Bohemian Besoms sells.
“I think we've been very supported by the community… our average age is actually eighteen to fifty five,” said Moon. “There's been a lot of excitement. We have a very regular customer base. Our social media presence has also grown. We’re on Facebook, Instagram and TikTok.”
On said instagram page is a link to Bohemian Besoms website, with much more information about the owners and the things they sell. Like items Moon thinks people should have: smudge sticks, incense, and crystals. You can ask them questions on the website and even see the hours. They also have tarot card readings you can schedule!
Although having a regular customer base, one of the owners mentioned how sometimes when people come in they seem scared. “I have seen a lot of trends with new people that come in, they are always scared thinking it's like devil worshiping.” He said. “It's not.” He added plainly.
Bohemian Besoms is also very welcoming and inclusive to it’s customers. All Owners come from different religious backgrounds, so it would make sense. “We are really accepting of people, there is no judgment in this shop from any of the owners,” said one of the owners. Moon also said: “I think we offer something for everyone regardless of your spiritual beliefs, regardless of your faith. And so no matter what your spiritual path I think we are able to help you out.”
When walking into Bohemian Besoms, you may notice an egg basket on the front counter. This egg basket is said to be a reward for shopping with them. It is also a way to celebrate upcoming Sabbats. Sabbats are usually days of religious observance, but can mean other things as well.
Finally, a finishing statement from Moon to other witches. “My advice is do your due diligence. Do your research. Surround yourself with good people and good energy. Trust your gut. And don't be afraid to ask questions. Take what serves you and let go of what doesn't.”
And although the owners are very welcoming, Bohemian Besoms is not hiring at this time. Having six owners is simply enough for the time being.
