Spruce and Sparrow is a shop in downtown Marion located at 194 West Center Street, and just opened not even a year ago on May 24th 2022.
Although it hasn’t been that long, the amount of support from friends and customers of Spruce and Sparrow has been overwhelmingly positive. Store owner, Jenny Lust, mentioned “My friend from highschool opened a store in Powell… she’s the one that really encouraged me to open this store.” Along with that, customers have thanked workers of Spruce and Sparrow for being in Marion, some going as far to say that it’s their favorite shop.
The idea behind Spruce and Sparrow was that Jenny Lust “always wanted to open a store.” She stated she originally wanted to do a bookstore, but claimed “What Marion really needed was a shop that has things that you can’t really get anywhere in Marion.” People seem to agree with this idea.
Although Jenny Lust said they mainly market towards women and new home or apartment owners, she says they have products for everyone. “We try to have something for everybody. We even have mens things.” Said Jenny, along with “we've become more of a gift shop too. So we have a lot of gifts for people.”
Along the many lists of items they sell, they have books for all ages, candles, jewelry such as rings, necklaces, bracelets and earrings. They also carry seasonal gifts, clothing, and many more. They even have some homemade products, made from family members and local artists alike. So when you go to buy something you know it was made or stalked on the shelfs with love.
At the end of a shopping spree, usually you would have a ton of receipts to either go through or throw away. Well not at Spruce and Sparrow. This shop uses email or text receipts. When asked why, they simply laughed, saying “We couldn't get the machine hooked up to our printer.” And Jenny Lust thinks it’s better that way. “So we do email and text receipts and really you’re not gonna lose it that way, so it's safer.”
Spruce and Sparrow hires at any age above 16, and the work family seems very welcoming and friendly.
Spruce and Sparrow is open 12pm-5pm on Sunday’s. Closed on Monday’s. Tuesday-Friday 10am-7pm. Finally Saturday 10am-5pm.
