This past summer Barbenheimer took over the media. What is Barbenheimer you may ask? Barbenhiemer was the internet sensation that took over the internet starting in July when Barbie and Oppenheimer came out on the same day.
Barbie and Oppenheimer came out on July 21, 2023. Barbenheimer became the term used for the double feature when people were going to the theater and seeing one movie then buying a ticket for the other movie to see both films in one day.
While Barbie is a movie heavily about girlhood, it still screams pink, glitter and all things stereotyped as “girly” and Oppenheimer is about the father of the atomic bomb J. Robert Oppenheimer, two movies on two different ends of movie genres, more than 200,000 people choose to see them both on the same day.
A poll was sent out to Harding students to see which movie they believed was better. There were a total of 190 responses. Out of those responses 32.1% of people said Barbie was better and 27.4% of people said Oppenheimer was better. Another 40.5% of people said that they hadn’t seen either movie. Between the 113 people who voted for Barbie or Oppenheimer, 53.9% or 61 people said Barbie was better. 46.1% or 52 people voted that Oppenheimer was better than Barbie.
