Are cellphones allowed in the building?

Recently students have noticed posters popping up in the halls about how people are not allowed to record or video anything in the building. In the student handbook, updated and reviewed every year, there is some information about the policy allowing students use of their devices.

The handbook says that “students must turn the personal devices all the way off.” This means they can’t be silent or tucked away in a bag. They have to be completely off because they are not allowed to receive any messages or record any communication, or take videos in the building. Even though this policy is supposed to be followed, one look in a classroom and the policy is not followed.

Other schools in the county have similar yet different rules on students' devices. River Valley High School students are required to follow the rules of the teacher about phones, and they are not allowed to bring their phones to the bathroom. Based on information from River Valley students this policy is not followed and not enforced.

The Herald reached out to Ms.Musbach regarding the appearance of the posters but she could not be reached.
