April Appearances!

Many other exciting things are happening in April other than what’s listed in our Important Dates section. But don’t worry! We’ve decided to list more things happening in April, so you can see what will appear!



April 1st is the 23rd year anniversary of The Netherlands being the first country to allow same sex marriage. Apple Inc. was also founded on this day in 1976, and of course it’s April Fools Day. 

April 2nd is world autism awareness day, which was adopted in 2008 by the United Nations General Assembly. The idea was proposed by Moza Bint Nasser Al-Missned. It’s also national fact checking day, if you wish to double check my work.

April 3rd marks the anniversary of Martin Luther King Jr.’s famous “I’ve Been to the Mountaintop'' speech, which was delivered in 1968 and was given at Mason Temple in Memphis, Tennessee. This speech was delivered the day before he was assassinated. The speech in its entirety is right here.

April 4th is established as International Day for Mine Awareness, the General Assembly declared this on December 8th, 2005. This is because decades ago, millions of miners were buried in countries across the world. Thousands of lives were lost, and many others altered, because of an unlucky step. It’s also World Rat Day. 

April 5th is the release of Conan Gray’s third studio album, “Found Heaven” along with Vampire weekends “Only God Was Above Us”

April 6th is Athens International Street Fair, located on East Union Street between Court St. and University Terrace in uptown Athens, Ohio. This festival has become a favorite of locals. This fair runs from 11am to 5pm and is a collaboration of the university’s international student group and nonprofit community of organizations. This festival has many stalls and hosts stage performances throughout the day.

April 7th marks the 34th year anniversary of an arson attack on a passenger ferry, the Scandinavian Star, killing 159 people. 

April 8th is the blessed day of The Solar Eclipse. The total of it will begin at 3:12pm and last for roughly 4 minutes. The last solar eclipse visible in Ohio was in 1806, and won’t occur again until 2099. Sandusky, or SUNdusky, will be holding a festival for the eclipse all weekend long. 

April 9th is the anniversary of the Bolivian National Revolution overthrowing Hugo Ballivian’s government in 1952. In 1940, Germany invaded Denmark and Norway. Along with that, in 1860 the first human voice was caught on recording. 

April 10th is International day of pink, which just so happens to be a Wednesday! So let’s all be mean girls and blind people with pink. 

April 11th is the day the show choir leaves for the New York trip that every single one of them has been waiting on for as long as a year. 

April 12th is the Dayton Grilled Cheese Festival from 5pm to 9pm, to celebrate 11 years of The Yellow Cab Food Truck Rallies. Entry is free. Owl City is also performing in Cincinnati, Ohio. from 7p, to 8:30pm at Bogart’s 2621 Short Vine Street.

April 13th is national Scrabble day. Recognizing the game which has been played around the world in many different ways.

April 14th TommyInnit will be live in Columbus, Ohio at 405 Neil Avenue at 7pm. Tickets are still for sale. Clue, a new comedy, will also be having a showing at 1pm and 6:30pm at 39 East State Street Columbus, Ohio. Tickets are also still available.

April 15th is the 159th anniversary of Abraham Lincoln's assassination. The World Trade Organization was also founded on this day in 1994.

April 16th is when GoodReads says that British author, Anthony Horowitz, will come out with the fifth book in his “Horowitz & Hawthorne” series. The book is called “Close to Death.” Also, in 1912, Harriet Quimby became the first woman to fly an airplane across the English Channel.

April 17th marks the 9 year anniversary of when the movie “unfriended” starring Shelley Hennig as Blaire Lily came out into theaters, along with “Paul Blart: Mall Cop 2” the same day and year.

April 18th is the anniversary of an earthquake in 1906 that destroyed San Francisco, about 3,000 people died in this disaster and over 80% of the town was destroyed. 

April 19th every Swifty will know that this is the day of Taylor Swift's new album, “The Tortured Poets Department” with songs like “so long, London” and “Guilty as sin.” As well as Pearl Jam's “Dark matter”

April 20th is the day students who made it into the “International Youth Silent Film Festival” located in Detroit, Michigan, head off to attend the event. It’s held at the Redford theater and they'll face off other schools to see who makes it to nationals, with them luck!

April 21st is national kindergarten day. This day was made to celebrate the man who started the first kindergarten, His name was Friedrich Froebel who was a German educator. This first kindergarten was in Blankenburg, Germany in 1837

April 22nd marks the day Amber Heard was born in 1986, along with Machine Gun Kelly in 1990. This is also when the first ever earth day in 1970

April 23rd is the 53rd anniversary of The Rolling stones releasing their album “Sticky Fingers” along with, in 2005 the first ever youtube video was posted. 

April 24th is the 11th year anniversary of 1,129 people dying in Bangladesh in the worst building collapse in modern history. The building was used by clothing factories, producing garments.

April 25th Little women is having a showing at the Akron Civic Theatre at 182 south main street. It’s 7:30pm to 11:30pm. 

April 26th is the day the new Paramount+ show, Knuckles the Echidna premiers with all six episodes coming out on the same day. This show is set between Sonic 2 and the Sonic 3 movie set to come out December of 2024

April 27th is the Arbor Day Festival at Dawes Arboretum in Newark, Ohio. This festival is to celebrate what mother nature has done for us and for what she can give, and to enjoy a nice day out in spring. They host many activities, like kids crafts and tree climbing. Admission is $10 for adults and 5$ for children.

April 28th in 1994, a former CIA officer, Aldrich Ames, admitted that he was forwarding U.S. Secrets to the Soviet Union. This confession led to life imprisonment and was one of the most damaging spy cases in U.S history. 

April 29th is the day that Alfred Hitchcock died in 1980, the man who revolutionized silent film and in some eyes is the king of the film industry. In 1992, deadly riots broke out in Los Angeles, in which 53 people died. 

Finally, April 30th is the day Hitler died in 1945, George Washington became the first president of the U.S. in 1789. Lastly in 1916, Germany and its world war one allies became the first counties to use the daylight savings system.
