A Life Well Lived- in Flip-Flops

Jimmy Buffett was born in 1946 on December 25 and passed on September 1, 2023. He died at the age of 76 of Merkel-cell carcinoma, which is a form of skin cancer. Buffett was a singer-songwriter, musician, author and businessman. He is best known for his tropical rock music and his brand which was named after and inspired by his hit song Margaritaville.


Buffet was born in Mississippi, but grew up in Alabama. After college Buffett moved to Nashville, Tennessee to pursue a country music career. Buffett moved to Key West, Florida in November of 1971 and lived there till his death. He was married to Margie Washichek from 1969-1972, then married Jane Buffett in 1977. Together he and Jane had 3 children, Savannah, Cameron and Sarah.


Buffet released his first album in 1970. Over the next few years he gained a following and officially hit mainstream in 1977 with his 7th album Changes in Latitudes, Changes in Attitudes containing his hit song Margaritaville. The song became a namesake for his brand. His next album Son of a Son of a Sailor featured another one of Buffet's hit songs, Cheeseburger in Paradise. Over his career, Buffett released 31 albums.


Buffet toured multiple times and his music was considered to be tropical rock. His tropical rock music was known by many and he was one one of the richest musicians in the world, with a networth of of $1 billion.
