THE HARDING HERALD

The Voice of The Presidents

The Harding Herald has been around for many years. The first Herald was published in 1919. This coincided with the opening of the new Harding High School on Church Street. The Herald was originally named Quiver Junior. Other schools made fun of this name, so eventually, one of the journalism classes of 1929 changed the name from Quiver Junior to the Harding Herald. A herald is someone who is giving the news. The first edition of the Herald was published on May 17,1929. Other names considered were The Aaron, The Trumpeter, and The Torch. The very first edition included the gossip column called Skandle which included the students and staff at Harding High School.
One of the yearly traditions was the April fools edition. The Herald was written, edited, published, and printed by the students, so the Herald is 100% students run.
